I painted this during the timed Plein Air Easton 2010 Quick Draw event, and had a great time painting the architectural features of this house on Goldsborough Street in a very high color key. I mixed up a beautiful rainbow of lovely sherbet colors on my palette before the start of the quick draw, and passers-by made comments that the paints looked good enough to eat! In the lightest areas, the paint is just slathered on, and is also used to build the texture of clapboards of the house. I used slightly grayer, darker tones to set off the areas in light, and to give some depth to the structure, and tried to keep the feeling of rich, reflected light even in the shadowed areas. This was painted on a hot, sunny morning in July when the heat index in Easton, Maryland was 114 degrees. However, I was having such a wonderful time painting that I hardly noticed the heat! This painting was accepted as one of 50 works in the 2010 National American Landscape Exhibit at Maryland Federation of Art, Annapolis, MD
